Description
Ingredients: Cherry wood smoked habanero peppers
Habanero peppers are a hot pepper ranging from 100,000 to 350,000 Scoville heat units. By reference, it’s approximately 76 times hotter than the jalapeno pepper. Originally from the South Americas, the habanero originated in the Amazonas region of Peru. Now, the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico is the world’s largest producer of habaneros.
While the habanero was once considered the world’s hottest pepper, it isn’t any longer. It’s 3-10 times milder than the ghost pepper, and much tamer than the scorpion and Carolina reaper.
We love habanero peppers because while they do provide great heat, they’re also very flavorful. Known for their tropical, fruity flavor, habaneros are very popular in the kitchen. We use habanero powder in our Mocking Bird rub and cherry wood smoked habanero powder in our Up North Hot BBQ sauce.
