For the past 8 years, we’ve run a weekly Tailgate Tuesday feature on the now defunct University of Michigan football blog, Maize and Go Blue, in which we shared a tailgate recipe themed around that week’s opponent.
In the early days, Joe Pichey of Go Blue BBQ was our Tailgate Tuesday pitmaster for the first couple years before I took over. We’ve had product sponsors such as Meat Church, Lane’s BBQ, Gentry’s BBQ, Thunderbird Wings, Rosewood Block, and Cultivate Coffee & Taphouse.
Tailgate Tuesday was one of our most popular weekly features, so last season we carried it over to Pasatiempo Barbecue. Because everything wa different in 2020, we decided to “auction off” our fandom that season through a March Madness style bracket on Instagram stories. LSU came out on top, so we used the Tigers’ schedule as our weekly theme.
This season, Michigan football is back and we will follow their schedule for our Tailgate Tuesday recipe posts. In each post, we give the recipe, of course, but we also try to share the history behind the recipe. There will be a “Jump to Recipe” button at the top of the page if all you want is the recipe itself, but we encourage you to read the backstory as well. Learning about the history of a dish makes enjoying it that much better.
These recipes are posted each Tuesday during the college football season. If you try any of these recipes, please let us know what you think of them and tag us on Instagram or Facebook.
